Panama weather is characteristically tropical and thus is in accordance to the country’s location and altitude. Weather in Panama is characterized by its two distinct seasons, with typical dry and wet conditions alternating right through the year. Panama weather is influenced by the two oceans that divide it into two pieces, the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean. Temperatures through out the year are high as is humidity levels across the whole country. Understandably, the thump rule is: the higher the altitude the cooler the conditions. At the Pacific regions of the cape, temperatures are fairly lower than those usually associated with the Caribbean side, and gentle winds are inclined to rise after sunset in the majority of the country.

Average annual temperatures on both coasts the Caribbean or Atlantic is 29° C, and varies from 10° to 19° C at various mountain elevations. Seasonal changes in temperatures are very minimal, with warm sunny days and cooler evenings throughout the year. Humidity levels are however quite high, averaging about 80%.

Precipitation levels are twice as profound on the Pacific coast as it is on the flats terrains of the Caribbean coast. Rainfall levels are determined regionally depending on altitude and closeness to the ocean, ranging anywhere from 1,300 mm to more than 3,000 mm annually. In cooperation the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean serve as two important dividing lines, predominantly for the fresh water Panama Canal. The majority of the rain falls during the rainy season,

Almost all of the rain falls during the rainy season, which from the months May through November, and varies in duration from seven to nine months. Precipitation is determined for the most part by two factors: humidity arriving in from the Caribbean, which is carried by northeast and northerly winds popular during most of the year, and the continental divide, which performs as a rain shield for the Pacific lowlands.

Another influence on Panama weather is the southwest wind blowing off the Pacific during the late autumn. This wind deposits some precipitation to the Pacific lowlands and is customized by the highlands of the Península de Azuero, which structure a partial rain shield for the majority of central Panama. As a general rule, rainfall is much more profound on the Caribbean than on the Pacific region of the continental divide. Panama weather experiences hazy skies, and thunderstorms during the rainy season but the country is outside the hurricane belt.

Panama weather during the dry season is graced with clear blue skies; equally the summer months experience almost identical conditions.

With blue skies common throughout the dry season, the summer months are equally tempered by winds blowing in from the north and extended times with abundant sunshine with little or no rain. The months from December right through to April make up the dry season or summer, when high temperatures and high humidity are expected.
